Our Story...
Like many good stories, ours didn’t quite go to plan.
After many years in corporate careers, we decided it was time for a different way of life. Rob has always been passionate about cycling, Sue has always loved bringing people together, and was running our Good Neighbour Scheme with 24 volunteers at. We were looking after Rob’s lovely mum Chris after some strokes and we both shared a dream of creating something of our own.
Our original plan was to open a bicycle shop and café—a place where cyclists could stop for great coffee, homemade food and friendly conversation before heading back out on the road.
Then Covid arrived.
Almost overnight, bicycles became almost impossible to source. We could have walked away from the dream, but instead we adapted. With the encouragement and practical help of friends, neighbours and local tradespeople, we transformed an empty unit into what would become The Hub & Spoke Café.
Opening during a global pandemic was certainly not how we’d imagined starting a new business, but from the very beginning the village embraced us. Customers became friends, friends became volunteers, and together we built something far bigger than simply a café.

Five years later...
The Hub & Spoke has become what many people affectionately call “the living room of Harlington.”
It’s where neighbours meet for coffee, cyclists gather before weekend rides, families celebrate birthdays and baby showers, friends enjoy afternoon tea, businesses hold meetings, and loved ones come together after funeral services. We’ve been privileged to become part of so many important moments in people’s lives.
Today we’re proud to offer much more than great coffee and homemade food. Alongside our breakfasts, lunches, cakes and sourdough pizzas, we host creative workshops, support local charities and community groups, provide outside catering, welcome visitors arriving by train and bicycle, and continue to look for new ways to bring people together.
We’re still a family-run independent café, and although we’ve grown enormously since opening our doors, the reason we started hasn’t changed.
Our aim has always been simple: to create somewhere warm, welcoming and full of kindness, where everyone feels at home.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or the hundredth, thank you for being part of our story.
We would love to welcome you through the door.
The café’s name and logo comes from a fusion of coffee cup, a pizza, and a cycle wheel and the hub and spokes are individual parts that only become strong when they work together. That’s exactly how we see our community
